Professor Mardy Chaplin wins Besse Award for Teaching Excellence, August 2025
Congratulations to Professor Chaplin, who won the Besse Award for Excellence in Teaching! This award is presented annually to up to four full-time faculty members and up to four adjunct faculty or lecturers selected for exceptional professional competence and commitment to student success. These award winners demonstrate a commitment to promoting academic quality, stimulating intellectual development and investing in students within and beyond the classroom. Well deserved, Professor Chaplin!

This spring, 30 Tri-C paralegal students were inducted into Lambda Epsilon Chi (LEX), the national honor society for paralegal/legal studies.
Becoming a member of LEX is a prestigious achievement that reflects a student’s mastery of rigorous coursework, commitment to academic honesty, and dedication to advancing the paralegal profession. During the induction ceremony, several additional paralegal students were recognized with Excellence Awards, earned from achieving the high “A” in a paralegal studies course during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Paralegal Studies Student Takes First Place in the LEX Scholarship Competition
For the second year in a row, a Tri-C Student took first place in the LEX scholarship competition. This is a wonderful achievement, as students from over 150 institutions are eligible to participate in this competitive scholarship competition. The winner, Valerie West, will get $1,500 and her essay will be published in The Legal Educator - a national journal.
The LEX Scholarship Competition is an annual student writing competition for paralegal and legal studies students enrolled in American Association for Paralegal Education (AAfPE) member institutions with LEX chapters.
